Oscar Wilde's tomb on the Père Lachaise Cemetery was designed by the sculptor Jacob Epstein inspired by Wilde's poem The Sphinx. For a long time, it was a tradition that the visitors kissed the sculpture after applying lipstick on their mouth. In order to protect the tomb a glass barrier was erected around it in 2011.
