Description:

Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments. The Jaipur observatory is the largest and best preserved. It has been described as an expression of the astronomical skills and cosmological concepts of the court of a scholarly prince at the end of the Mughal period. Jantar Mantar literally means: calculation instrument. The observatory is made up of fourteen geometric devices. These are for measuring time, predicting eclipses and tracking stars, each is fixed & focused. Restored in 1901, though it looks modern, the Jantar Mantar was declared a national monument of India in 1948.
