What is life coaching?

I am dedicated to helping individuals make significant changes in their personal life, as well as in their career or business. Coaches usually work with clients for 3 to 12 months and can focus their practice on a client’s life in general, or they can choose a niche to focus on, such as life transitions, career, relationships, life purpose, health, executive coaching or sales coaching. Life coaching is very concrete, tangible, and results oriented. The client establishes goals, and works toward them in a very tangible way. This makes coaching fulfilling for both the client and the coach as positive results occur on a weekly basis.

What makes a good coach?

Many people have always helped people personally and/or professionally. They find that working with others is a natural and easy skill for them.

Through their work in other professions and through life experience, most coaches have developed excellent skills in many areas. They want to use their talents and skills in a way that helps others--and they also want to make a good living doing it. Coaches need to be self-motivated and have the willingness to learn basic business skills. They also have to have the confidence to market their businesses in a clear and effective way.

Coaching is a personal service, therefore coaches must connect with people in a personal and authentic way. We at Let Your Dog Out have found over the last 8 years that by tapping into a coach’s natural strengths, their unique purpose and their “natural marketing style,” coaches can see excellent results. Some people, for example, are natural speakers and would do best to promote themselves through workshops and speaking engagements. Others are natural networkers. They are always talking to people, be it in the grocery store or at an organizational meeting. These individuals would do best by joining community groups and reaching out first to their circle of friends, acquaintances and colleagues. Still others are more introverted and find that reaching out via blogging, social media and print ads works best for them. Marketing is an integral part of any coach’s success and we have found that doing what comes naturally will more likely result in a successful coaching practice. The good news is that with guidance and the right information, many coaches find that promoting the unique service they have to offer can be one of the most enjoyable aspects of their profession.
