Omid Scheybani

Creative Statement

My name is Omid Scheybani and I'm a Germany-born Iranian. I'm in my mid-twenties and have been living in Spain, Ireland and Argentina before I ended up in San Francisco 3 years ago to work in Tech. If I'm not traveling for personal reasons (and I find a lot of reasons to do so), I get around a lot in Latin America for work.

Initially, my true passion was film and some of my productions were even featured in national and international film festivals. It wasn't until I bought my first smartphone which unleashed my photographic creativity. The release of Instagram was probably the key event that really got me engaged with instant photography.

My experiences around the world have shaped a lot the way how I look at the world and the perspective I take on life - something that has also influenced my photographic eye. The German in me is constantly on the search for symmetry while my exposure to latin american cultures has made me appreciate humanity in general and humans as a subject matter. Surprisingly enough, I don't own a professional camera but take all my shots with my phone (iPhone 5c currently).
